The Froonze Cancel Order plugin helps Shopify merchants offer customers a self-serve option to cancel their unfulfilled orders. By adding a cancel order button to your Shopify store, you can deliver a better customer experience, reduce shipping logistics issues, and decrease operational costs.
This article provides a straightforward guide on how to subscribe to the cancel order plugin, install the cancel order widgets, and troubleshoot common issues in the plugin’s setup.
Subscribe to the Cancel Order plugin
The Cancel Order plugin is billed separately from other Froonze modules. This is part of our belief in giving Shopify merchants the freedom to choose what they need. You can manage your subscription from the
Subscription page inside our app dashboard.
Step 1: Access the app Subscription page
Our app dashboard has a dedicated page where merchants can subscribe to, unsubscribe from and update the plan for any of our plugins.
1. Sign in to your Shopify admin and access the Apps option.
You can pin our app to the sidebar for easy access in the future.
3. This page lists all of our available plugins, their pricing plans, and the option to enable each individually.
Step 2: Enable the Cancel Order plugin
Our cancel order plugin is available as a single-plan option, regardless of store size or monthly orders.
1. Find the Cancel Order plugin section and toggle on the Activate option.
2. Once enabled, press Update and then select Yes in the disclaimer pop-up.
3. You will be redirected to the Approve subscription page from Shopify.
Step 3: Approve the new app charges
You will be prompted to accept a new Shopify recurring charge. Any old recurring charge for our app will be automatically cancelled.
1. Review all the details on the Approve subscription page from Shopify, including:
•
Subscription details → monthly cost (
e.g., $4/month).
•
Free trial (
if applicable) → a charge will appear on your Shopify bill, but it’s prorated to exclude the first 14 days (
trial period).
•
Payment method → choose your desired payment method (
e.g., select existing card, add a new card, or use PayPal).
The free trial is available only for first-time subscriptions; applies to the entire app, not just a specific plugin; and starts from the moment a merchant subscribes to any paid plan from any plugin.
2. Once everything is verified, press Approve to confirm the new charges.
3. You will be redirected back to our app Subscription page after confirmation.
The Cancel Order plugin is officially active, and you’re ready to set up the corresponding widgets.
Install the Cancel Order widgets
Our Cancel Order widgets are available in two forms:
- Cancel Order button in the Froonze Account widget.
- Cancel Order extension in the Shopify Customer Account page.
The installation process varies depending on the preferred Cancel Order widget.
Style the Cancel Order in the Froonze Account widget
If you’re a Froonze Account plugin subscriber, the Cancel Order button will be automatically added to each unfulfilled order from the Order history tab inside the Froonze Account widget.
You don’t need to take any additional action besides making some style adjustments to keep things branded.
- Navigate to our app’s Cancel order → Settings tab.
- Modify the button background colour and text colour from the styling section.
- Press Save to propagate changes once happy with the preview.
The changes to the Cancel Order button are visible on the order history tab for each unfulfilled order in the Froonze Account widget.
The basic colour changes are enough for most Shopify merchants. However, if you need more customisation power, you can use CSS and JS to make more complex changes. Please refer to our list of JS events. You can add the code directly to your theme files. Add the Cancel Order to the Shopify Customer Account page
If you’re interested in the Froonze Cancel Order plugin only and have no plans to enhance the Shopify Customer Accounts default account page by subscribing to our Account plugin, you’re in luck.
Our Cancel Order plugin is compatible with the Shopify Customer Accounts. That means you can simply add a way for your customers to withdraw from the order from the Shopify default customer account page.
- Navigate to our app’s Cancel order → Installation tab.
- Access the Shopify Checkout & Accounts Editor mode.
- Find the Cancel Order Button block under Apps.
- Press the Plus (+) button and Add action to Orders and Order status option.
- Press Save to propagate changes to your store.
You can modify the Cancel Order button’s colour directly from the Checkout & Accounts Editor → Settings tab → Find the Input fields section → Pick a colour for the Error option.
Shopify Customer Accounts allow minimal styling changes, such as font selection, basic colour modifications, and pre-defined UI options. As a result, the Froonze Cancel Order button is limited to the options available in the Shopify Checkout & Accounts Editor.
Once completed, the Cancel Order button will be added to each unfulfilled order in the Shopify Customer Accounts default account page. It will be visible on the order history page and the individual order status page.
Configure the Cancel Order settings
While our Cancel Order plugin works only with unfulfilled orders, it’s still possible to change its behaviour, modify its visibility, and translate or reword the customer-facing texts, depending on your needs.
Adjust the Cancel Order behaviour
You can configure whether products are restocked when an order is cancelled, and request a cancellation reason from your customers.
- Navigate to our app’s Cancel order → Settings tab.
- You can enable any of these options under the Behavior section:
- Toggle on the Restock the ordered products option.
- Toggle on the Require cancellation reason option.
- Press Save to propagate changes to your store.
For the Restocking option to work, your stock must be managed by Shopify.
For the Cancellation reason to work, your customers must add a message that is at least 10 characters to complete the order cancellation successfully.
Furthermore, you can limit the visibility of the Cancel Order buttons based on customer tags and order tags.
- Navigate to our app’s Cancel order → Settings tab.
- For customer tags-based visibility, you can add tags to any of these fields under the Visibility section:
- Allow cancelling only for customers with any tag: Displays the Cancel Order button only for customers who have any of the added customer tags.
- Prevent cancelling for customers with tags: Removes the Cancel Order button for customers who have any of the added customer tags.
- For order tags-based visibility, you can add tags to any of these fields under the Visibility section:
- Allow cancelling only for orders with any tags: Displays the Cancel Order button only on orders that have any of the added order tags.
- Prevent cancelling for orders with tags: Removes the Cancel Order button from orders that have any of the added order tags.
- Press Save to propagate changes to your store.
You need to press the Enter key after each tag you plan to add. Otherwise, the tags will not be added after saving.
Translate the Cancel Order widgets
You can translate the Cancel Order plugin’s customer-facing texts into any language supported by Shopify. This can be done directly from our app dashboard.
- Navigate to our app’s Cancel order → Translations tab.
- Press Change language at the top left to switch to another language.
- You can manage languages from the Active language pop-up:
- Select an existing Active language.
- Add an entirely new Active language.
- Select your desired language and start translating the texts.
Once happy with the translations, hit
Save to propagate the changes.
If your store’s primary language is other than English, you should translate texts from the Default language and select English or other languages as additional options to be translated.
Furthermore, you can reword the Cancel Order plugin’s customer-facing texts, including instructions, button text, and notifications, to match your brand’s voice.
- Navigate to our app’s Cancel order → Translations tab.
- Press Change language at the top left to ensure you’re on the Default language.
- If not already selected, press the Default option and start rewording the texts.
- Once happy with the rewording, hit Save to propagate the changes.
FAQs about the Cancel Order plugin
What should I do if the Cancel Order button does not appear after installation?
The Cancel Order button will be added only to unfulfilled orders. You should check the status of the order in your Shopify Admin → Orders page. Also, double-check that the customer or order doesn’t have tags that were added to prevent the visibility of the Cancel Order button. You can do that from our app’s Cancel Order → Settings tab → Visibility section.
How can I use custom CSS or JS for advanced styling, and do you provide an API?
You can add custom CSS and JS directly to your theme files. You can target our branded CSS selectors. For more complex customisations, you can use our JS events, such as the frcp.orders.mounted JS event. Please note that custom styling via CSS and JS is not available for the Cancel Order extension in the Shopify Customer Accounts due to Shopify’s limitations on styling options.
Are there any known compatibility issues with other Shopify apps or themes?
Our Cancel Order plugin is compatible with most modern and up-to-date Shopify themes. The Cancel Order button will only work inside our Account widget or inside the Shopify Customer Accounts default account page. Attempting to add it anywhere else will not work.
Can I limit which customers or order types see the Cancel Order button?
Absolutely. You can show the Cancel Order button only to specific customers or add it to specific orders, based on customer and order tags. You can also prevent specific customers from seeing the Cancel Order button or remove it from specific orders based on customer and order tags.
Does the plugin help with specific legal requirements in certain countries or regions?
If your store is in the European Union or sells to consumers in the EU, then you most likely know that, based on EU Directive 2023/2673, you must provide a clear and easily accessible digital withdrawal feature. While the Froonze Cancel Order plugin offers Shopify merchants a convenient way to improve the customer experience for logged-in customers, it’s not built to comply with the new EU Withdrawal Button Directive.
How do I cancel or change my subscription if I no longer need the plugin?
In case you no longer need the Cancel Order plugin, you can unsubscribe from our app’s Subscription page. Simply toggle off the Cancel Order plugin option, update the subscription, and approve the new charges.
Where can I get help if I encounter issues not covered in this guide?
If you run into any issues, feel free to
contact Froonze Support. Our team’s response time is lightning-fast. We’re often recognised as being part of a Shopify merchant’s team rather than just providing generic app support. The 5-star rating on the Shopify App Store is a testimony to our performance.
